Nihal Singh

Nihal Singh is a student of Sikh sacred music and political philosophy from the United States. He began studying Kīrtan and Indian classical music at age five, going on to train under maestros Bhāī Baldeep Singh, Ustād Zakir Hussain, and Paṅdit Swapan Chaudhuri. After graduating from UC Berkeley, he spent three years as a research fellow, pursuing independent studies in aesthetics, political philosophy, and systematic theology in Oakland, California.

Nihal founded and writes regularly at The Vital Anjan — a digital journal of GurSikh ideas, culture, and affairs. Nihal is currently reading for an MPhil at Oxford with a thesis exploring the interplay of textuality and orality in the transmission of GurSikh musical tradition.
