Parminder Singh Bhamra
A Punjabi percussionist. A world-class musician specializing in the ancient Amritsari Baaj, plays the pakhawaj. Won First Prize at the National Academy of Dance and Drama New Delhi (2013), the special prize at Harballabh Sammelan (2006) and Second Prize at the Punjabi University Competition (2006). He lectures at Hofstra University (New York, USA) and at the Department of Percussion at the Anad Conservatory (Sultanpur Lodhi, India). He cultivates the playing of traditional Sikh instruments.
Parminder has been recognized as a soloist on pakhawaj, as well as an accompanist. His concerts at Laya Darshan: Revealing the Riches of Indian Rhythm (2005, The Anad Foundation, New Delhi), Sangeet Pratibha organized by Rashtriya Sangeet Natak Akademi at Patiala in 2006, Conservatory of Frosinone (Włochy), Harballabh Sangeet Sammellan (2009 and 2011 Jalandhar), Lahore University (April 2010, Lahore), Hofstra University (New York, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016), Guru Gaurav Festival (Patna, January 2017), Diwali Summer Festival in Rome (Feste Della Luce 2019), and RAI 3 (Italian National Radio in 2020) were immensely well-received.
He has had the privilege of accompanying the very best dhrupad singers, such as Pandit Asit Banerjee (rudra veena), Pandit Ritwik Sanyal (vocals) as well as exponents of the Talwandi gharana Ustad Labrez Khan and Ali Hafiz Khan (vocals). He has also played with his guru, Bhai Baldeep Singh in the USA, UK, Canada, India and Italy.
